Beginning Genealogy Tips to Get You Started – R. E. Bickham

Talk to your parents, Find out where they grew up, (town, county, state) Birth & death dates of each, & their mother and father, your parent’s marriage date and location. Ask where their parents & grandparents are buried (locations, cemeteries name, county, state). Ask if there are any of your Aunts, Uncles, or other relatives who have done any genealogy research. Find out who are their oldest living relatives (plan to visit them and record your conversations with them) QUESTIONS TO ASK RELATIVES:  Ask what they know about the family. Ask where relatives are buried. Ask if they know any dates of births, deaths, marriages. Ask if they know any stories about the family. Ask if they know any other living relatives (visit them and do the same thing with them) Your CVGS library volunteers can point you in the right direction for more research. Search for names you discover at: http://www.findagrave.com  https://familysearch.org http://www.usgenweb.org
